Formation events

Provide your parish liturgical ministers and volunteers with essential formation, support your parish leaders, and engage your entire congregation with a Center for Learning formation event!

We know your parish will benefit from a formation event because they are tailored to address the unique needs of your community. These events provide a sustained formation and accompaniment relationship between a host parish, its leaders and the Center for Learning – before, during and after the event takes place.

Envisioning

Before a formation event takes place, we meet with your parish leaders and work with them to identify your formation needs and goals, and to determine how our programming options can best meet your needs. This conversation helps the Center for Learning customize the formation event content for each host parish and it helps the host parish leaders develop planning and goal setting for their liturgical ministry.

Event

Beginning and ending with prayer, each formation event addresses your community’s specific needs and goals with a keynote, breakouts and a vision and implementation session.

  • Keynote
Delivered by a liturgical expert, each inspiring keynote address is grounded in one of the Church’s essential liturgical documents like Sing to the Lord, Sacrosanctum Concilium, Desiderio desideravi, Sacramentum Caritatis, Dies Domini, etc.

  • Tracks
Choose one or more tracks for your event breakouts. You can focus on pastoral musicians like cantors or instrumentalists, or liturgical ministers like lectors, extraordinary ministers, Catholic school teachers or ministers, and more.

  • Vision and implementation session
Events end with a concluding session to ensure your community can practically apply the formation you’ve received. Vision and implementation sessions include: formation takeaways for your parish, a shared vision for the future and a concrete implementation plan for your specific ministry goals.

Extensions

More than a retreat, Center for Learning formation events include follow-up support for your parish leaders after the event takes place. Your leaders will receive access to exclusive event “extensions” – tools and digital resources offering additional, targeted formation to broaden the impact of the event for your parish community. They will join a community of peers and continue their relationships with Center for Learning experts.

Formation events are designed with a single parish in mind, but they can work at a diocesan or regional level, as well. The events can focus on forming and training pastoral musicians, or they can provide formation for all of your liturgical minsters or your entire assembly.

Partner with us to provide an in-person formation experience tailored to renew your parish’s liturgical ministries.

What to expect from a Center for Learning formation event:

  • A sustained formation relationship

  • Formation designed for impact

  • A concrete and actionable implementation plan

  • Formation for the entire parish community

  • Customization and flexibility

  • A shared vision for your parish ministry

Effective formation methods address the whole person: emotions, imagination, will, heart, and mind. It is the whole person who ministers, so the whole person is the proper subject of formation.
